SHIMLA
Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. In 1864, Shimla was declared the summer capital of the British Raj in India. A popular tourist destination, Shimla is often referred to as the Queen of the Hills.
GEOGRAPHY
Shimla lies to the north of the western ranges of the Himalayas. At an average elevation of 2397.59 m (mean 7866.10 ft above sea level), the city stretches on a mound.
TOURISM
Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh and the summer capital of the British era, is the most important tourist center of the state. The place is named after Goddess Shyamala who is an incarnation of Kali. Shimla is situated at an altitude of about 7267 feet and it is situated in a semi-circle shape, which is blessed with cool breeze blowing throughout the year.
It has a beautiful view of the valley and the peaks of the great Himalayan ranges are visible all around. To its north, the snow is frozen to the horizon. Here cold winds blow and pass through the forests of oak and rhododendron. Shimla's pleasant weather, easy access and many attractions make it one of the most popular hill stations in North India.
RIDGE
A large and open space in the center of the city, from where one can have a beautiful view of the mountain ranges. Here the Christ Church and the building of the New-Tudor Library, an example of the Neo-Gothic architecture that has become the identity of Shimla, are visible.
Shimla's main shopping center, which also has restaurants. The Gaiety Theatre, a variant of the old British theatre, is now a center of cultural activity. Cart Road to Mall H.P. v. n. It can also be reached by lift. Lakkar Bazaar, located near the ridge, is famous for wooden items and souvenirs.
JAKHU TEMPLE
(2.5 km) 2455 m. A beautiful view of the city can be seen from the highest peak of Shimla. There is an ancient temple of Lord Hanuman here.
