ELEPHANTA'S CAVES

ELEPHANTA'S CAVES The famous Elephanta Caves, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These caves are located in the Elephanta continent. It is said that this place was named by the Portuguese. It is said by them that when the Portuguese came here for the first time, they found a huge statue of an elephant here. The island is located in Front Bay off the coast of the city of Mumbai. The name of this gulf is also Gharapuri which means city of caves. There are two types of caves at this place, one which depicts the Hindu religion and the other which are for the followers of Buddhism. Both these caves remain closed on Monday due to construction work. The island can be reached by ferry from the Gateway of India terminal in Colaba. The fare to go here is very cheap and this service is available to the person twice every hour. Tourists reach here in an interval of one hour via ferry.
