RED FORT
Red Fort is the most popular tourist destination of Delhi.

History
The Red Fort and Shahjahanabad city were built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1639 AD. The Red Fort was the palace of Shahjahanabad, the new capital of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. It was the seventh Muslim city of Delhi city. Shah Jahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi. Shah Jahan also had the ambition to make new constructions and his main interest was also in this. The planning, arrangement and beauty of the Red Fort is a unique example of Mughal creativity, which was at its peak during the time of Shah Jahan. It is said that after the construction of this fort many development works were added by Shah Jahan himself. The development works were done by Aurangzeb and the last Mughal rulers. Many changes in the overall configuration were made after the first freedom struggle of 1857 during the British period. During the British period, this fort was mainly used as a cantonment. Even after independence, many important parts of it remained under the control of the army till 2003.

Lahore Gate
Lahore Gate is its main entrance. There is a long market inside it. There is Chatta Chowk, whose walls are lined with shops. It is followed by a large open space, where it intersects the north-south road. This road previously divided the fort into parts of military and civilian palaces. The southern end of this road is Delhi Gate.
From the Lahore Gate, visitors reach 'Chhatta Chowk', which used to be the royal market. This royal market housed families of courtiers, jewellers, painters, carpet makers, enamel workers, silk weavers and specialized artisans. A road from the Shahi Bazaar leads to Nawabar Khane, from where the royal band was played five times a day. This band house also signifies the entry into the main palace and all the guests except the royal family have to bow down from here.
