The Fort of Chittor holds its distinct identity not only in Rajasthan but all over India due to the great heroes and the gathao of sacrifice associated here.
Chittorgarh Fort is located in the famous Chittor of Rajasthan . The fort is built on a hill about 500 feet above the ground. It is famous from tradition that it was built by Chitrangad Mori. It was captured by Guhilvanshi Bapa in the 8th century. For some time it was also under the control of Parmaras, Solankis and Chauhans, but it remained mostly in the hands of Guhilvanshis till the merger of Udaipur state with Rajasthan around AD 1175.

HISTORY

The ancient Chitrakoot fort or Chittorgarh fort holds a proud place in the history of Rajput bravery. This fort was an important center of power from the 7th to the 16th century. Spread over an area of ​​700 acres, this fort stands on a 500 feet high hill. It is believed to have been built by Chitrangada Mori of the Mori dynasty in the 7th century.

The fort of Chittorgarh has been a witness to the rule of many dynasties, such as -

Mori or Maurya (7th-8th century AD)
Pratihara - 9th-10th century AD 
Parmar 10th-11th century AD
 Solanki - 12th century AD 
Guhilot or Sisodia

 INVASION

It was attacked thrice during the long history of the fort. The first invasion was by Alauddin Khilji in 1303, the second by Bahadur Shah of Gujarat in 1535 and the third by the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1567-68. Jauhar was performed here every time. Its famous monumental heritage is characterized by its distinctive strong forts, gateways, bastions, palaces, temples, forts and reservoirs, which are excellent specimens of Rajput architecture.

ENTRANCE

There are seven entrances to this fort. The first entrance is known as 'Pedal Pol', followed by 'Bhairava Pol', 'Hanuman Pol', 'Ganesh Pol', 'Joli Pol', 'Lakshman Pol' and finally 'Ram Pol', which It was built in the year 1459. The entrance located on the eastern side of the fort is called 'Suraj Pol'.

Chittorgarh Fort is full of many scenic and historical places. There is a memorial of Veer Bagh Singh near Padalpole. By becoming the representative of Maharana, he fought with the Gujaratis.
